Since it’s been a good hour or two since we’ve written about Mastodon, we thought you should know that the band’s Once More ‘Round the Sun is streaming now on  iTunes. It’ll be out on June 24th, but you can listen to it eight days early. The eleven track album might have the most in common with their last album, The Hunter, in that it’s not a concept album, and while not really a “commercial” album, per se,  still has some of the catchiest material the band’s written. Our early favorites are “The Motherload,” “Chimes at Midnight,” and “Aunt Lisa,” in which the band is joined by female band The Coathangers for a great chant towards the end of the song that reminded us of Faith No More’s “Be Aggressive.” And of course, Neurosis’ Scott Kelly returns, this time for the album closer, “Diamond in the Witch House.”

Once again, while you can stream the album on iTunes, you can win it before it’s out by entering our contest right here. And if you’re in NYC, you can pick up some cool swag (including a vinyl copy of the album) and have some beer specials courtesy of Sierra Nevada while listening to it tomorrow at Idle Hands.
