Iron Maiden have released a new song. “Stratego,” written by guitarist Janick Gers and bassist Steve Harris, is a hard-hitting track with a triumphant melody and powerful guitars. The track can be heard below.
“Stratego” is the second single from Iron Maiden’s upcoming 17th studio album Senjutsu. The follow-up to 2015’s The Book Of Souls, the album was recorded at Guillaume Tell Studio in Paris, France and produced by Kevin Shirley, who also helmed the band’s last six studio efforts. It was co-produced by Harris, who also worked with artist Mark Wilkinson on the samurai-themed cover art.
Said frontman Bruce Dickenson previously about Senjutsu,
“We’re all really excited about this album. We recorded it back in early 2019 during a break in the ‘Legacy’ tour so we could maximize our touring yet still have a long set up period before release to prepare great album art and something special as a video. Of course, the pandemic delayed things more — so much for the best-laid plans — or should that be ‘strategies’!? The songs are very varied, and some of them are quite long. There’s also one or two songs which sound pretty different to our usual style, and I think Maiden fans will be surprised — in a good way, I hope!”
Senjutsu is set for release on September 3. The album will be available as a 2xCD digipak, a deluxe 2xCD book, a deluxe 3xLP 180 gram black vinyl, a special edition silver and black marble 3xLP, a special edition red and black marble 3xLP, a super deluxe CD/DVD/memorabilia box set and a digital album.
