Derek Smalls, the iconic bassist formerly of Spinal Tap, has returned with a new single titled “Must Crush Barbie” via Bottomland Productions/Immortal Records. This doll-smashing track aims at the pink and fluffy cultural phenomenon from the popular 2023 film Barbie. Known for their raw, bass-heavy, and loud sound, Derek Smalls and Spinal Tap offer an antidote to the overwhelming pinkness that has dominated the media throughout the summer. The song is a response to Smalls’ observations, as he expressed:

“Been spending the last year or so as Brand Ambassador for BruegelCoin, the Dutch cryptocurrency. Since it was cratering this past spring, I was following the news more than usual, which is where I got bombarded by all the Barbie BS. I don’t know which angered me more, but it’s really hard to write a song about crypto. But the overwhelming shroud of pinkness definitely deserved a major pricking. And that’s where I came in.”
