We’ve already taken “Drugs on the Bus” with Crystal Fairy, a new supergroup of sorts featuring The Melvins’ Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of The Mars Volta and At the Drive-In and Le Butcheretttes’ Teri Gender Bender. Now the band are b ack with a new song, and it’s every bit as catchy weird and awesome as you’d think a combination of those three bands would be. Tday via Pitchfork, the band released “Chiseler,” another track from the band’s self-titled debut album. While the first track was a little more sedate, “Chiseler” is a rager. In and out in three minutes, it barrels along with a punk rock intensity, with Teri’s vocals sneering and melodic at the same time. For some reason, her vocals reminded us of Pat Benetar, but y’know, like better. Here’s what Gender Bender says of the track:
It was so much fun to write this song with Buzz, Omar and Dale. It literally just came out like a flying saucer while we were working the parts out for Chiseler. That same day we recorded everything. It was so impressive to see how well we all experiment with one another. While writing the lyrics for this one, I completely let my hand do the story telling… the unconscious is sometimes wiser than our premeditated thoughts.
Take a listen below, and mark your calendar for Feabruary 24th, which is when the album will be out on Ipecac.
