What Are Former GN’R Members Up To These Days?

Posted by on March 8, 2011

Interesting how two members from the same group can lead such different lives. One former member of Guns N’ Roses is trying to help you save money, while another member is trying to not spend money on drugs.

Velvet Revolver/ex-Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan is launching his own money management firm with the goal of educating fellow rockers and musicians about their finances. Meridian Rock is currently in the early stages, but will be headed by McKagan and British investor Andy Bottomley. This shouldn’t, though, come as a surprise to GN’R fans. In addition to taking finance courses at Santa Monica Community College and  Seattle University’s Albers School of Business, the bassist has even written his own financial column for Playboy Magazine called “Duffonomics.” You can read further in his new interview with Fortune what inspired him to learn more about financials.

Ex-Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler, on the other hand, is making less of a solid investment. Adler will reportedly appear/check into VH1’s Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew once again. Adler previously appeared on the show’s second season, as well as its spinoff Sober House in 2008 and 2009. However, before you go “Oh, Adler fell off the wagon again. Big surprise,” Adler went to his Twitter account to downplay his appearance, saying the following in a series of posts:

“As you all may already know, I’m back here at Celebrity Rehab again. Working on making sure I stay on the right track! I’m working with Dr. Drew and Bob Forrest and it’s going great so far!

Thanks again as always for all of your prayers, love and support! Everything will be fine! I’m feeling great and it will only get better!

I’m here for just a good tune-up!! Thank you all !!! It feels good to be alive!”

While it seems sad to see Adler back on the show, at least he’s seeking help to maintain sobriety (or so he makes us believe in his tweets). Plus, since participating celebrities actually get paid to go through treatment on the show, maybe even McKagan would agree that Adler’s appearance is financially a decent plan. The two recently shared the stage during Adler’s Appetite’s London gig. Maybe McKagan can give his old band mate some good financial advice so that he doesn’t need to rely on free reality TV rehab next time.
