Former Divine Heresy, Nile Bassist Likes Selling Weed, Doesn’t Like Getting Caught

Posted by on December 12, 2012

It’s been almost two years since bassist Joe Payne left Divine Heresy, a band he’d played in for four years. What’s he been up to since then? Apparently no good. Charlotte, NC station WSOC reports that Payne, who also played with Nile from 2005-2007, was arrested in connection with distributing more than 2,900 grams of marijuana in the Iredell County area.

Payne and an accomplice, John Tringas, were arrested in connection with the investigation, which led to a search at Payne’s residence. Once there, they uncovered  more than 2,900 grams of weed, along with three handguns and over $5,000 in cash. That money probably wasn’t made by touring in support of Bringer of Plagues. The high-end pot had a value of $26,000. The two have been charged with felony possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and maintaining a vehicle. Hopefully the two won’t be in jail for too long, since we’re only talking about pot here. At the same time, 6.4 pounds of pot is a lot more than anyone needs recreationally.
