Playing guitar for Ozzy Osbourne is one of the best gigs a musician can have. Granted, it’s not like there’s a ton of job security, but his touring and album release schedule gives musicians plenty of other time to focus on their other projects. The news Friday that Zakk Wylde is rejoining Ozzy for at least four shows this Summer is good to hear, as he’s probably the axeman most closely associated with him, and gives fans another reason to see the aging rocker as he plots a 2018 solo album. And while Firewind guitarist Gus G. has lost his job, he doesn’t seem particularly upset by it. In fact, he seems gracious given the Facebook message he left on Friday.

Calling it “long overdue,” the writing may have been on the wall since at least last year, when Ozzy announced his writing team for the next album and Gus wasn’t on it. Then again, neither was Wylde. Interestingly enough, Gus posted a photo on his Facebook page yesterday (29) of him with Steve Stevens, who Ozzy said would be working on his next album. While Ozzy hasn’t said much more about the 2018 album, maybe Gus will actually be contributing to it along with Stevens, but that’s totally conjecture on our part. Regardless, a lot more people know who Gus G. and Firewind are now that he’s done time with Ozzy, and it’s a win-win for everyone.
