As one of Judas Priest’s two guitarists until this past year’s Redeemer of Souls, K.K. Downing is responsible for some of the most recognizable riffs in metal history. He stepped down from the band three years ago, and many might have wondered what he’s been up to. He resurfaced this past weekend at UK festival Planet Rockstock, where he spoke with Planet Rocks’ Paul Anthony about his latest venture – making perfume. That’s right, the former axeman is now hawking perfume and cologne that he developed with The Astbury Fragrance Co. called “Metal for Men” and the slightly more exotic-sounding Metal Pour Femme:

“I think I just woke up one morning and thought of the word ‘metal’ and I thought ‘metal for men’ and I thought, straight away, I thought, ‘What could that relate to?’ And I don’t know why I thought about it, but I thought there’s nothing out there on the market that’s associated with rock and metal fans in respect to fragrances and stuff. And I guess that, combined with my mum asking me continually what I want for Christmas and stuff, and it just came about. And it just so happens I had a friend who had associations with fragrances before, and it came about very, very quickly.”

Okay then. Well, if you want to smell like Judas Priest used to smell like, you can pick up the fragrances here. They aren’t cheap, but all are individually ($58 to $70), but they’re all individually signed by K.K.
