A re-trial, new jury and new lawyer was not enough for Jammie Thomas-Rasset, as the verdict was handed down yesterday in the fiery case of Captiol v. Thomas-Rasset: guilty to the tune of $1.92 million. A penalty of $80,000 per song damage was awarded for 24 cases of infringement, an increase from the original trial’s $9,250 per song and gratuitously more than the $750 minimum. The total fines are a $1.7 million increase from the first trial’s verdict. A legal “win” for the RIAA, though the public image hit will surely be something to witness considering the insanely bad press from the original fines.
