Spinefarm Records is starting off 2016 hitting the ground running with the announcement that they’ve signed a trio of acts, Royal Thunder, The Browning and Helhorse, with the most noteworthy perhaps being Royal Thunder. The Georgia band’s second full length, last year’s Crooked Doors, wound up on a lot of year-end lists, and they just got off the road with The Sword. They’ve been on Relapse for their entire career, with their 2010 self-titled EP being re-released by the label before 2012’s CVI. Here’s what the band says about their move from Relapse:
“We’d like to thank Relapse Records for all the years we had together. But now it’s time to move on. It takes a long time and a lot of hard work to obtain something good. And as a band, we have always worked hard, stayed true to ourselves and to one another. We are a family. We thank you Spinefarm for the opportunity to move on with you and be a part of your family! We look forward to many great years together! Bones!”
In addition, The Browning, who combine deathcore and electronic music, are another signing to the label. THey’d most recently been on Earache Records. The Kansas City band are working on their debut album for Spinefarm, with it expected out this summer. “I am really proud of what The Browning has become,” band mastermind Jonny McBee says. “It’s been a long, hard road. Signing with Spinefarm is a big step in the awesome direction this band is going and I cannot wait for the future. Excited for the world to hear this next album!”
The label has also signed Denmark’s Helhorse. The sludge-metal band will be releasing their third full-length on Spinefarm sometimes this year.
