We first heard about this on April Fool’s Day, but we weren’t going to write about it because we didn’t think anyone would believe us. Disney, who we wrote about last week for once again banning a metal band from playing at one of their venues, has embraced the genre via an album of power metal covers of Disney tunes. D-Metal Stars was released in Japan last year, and has made its way stateside. Former Yngwie Malmsteen and Loudness current Obsession vocalist Mike Vescera, veteran bassist Rudy Sarzo, Obsessions guitarist John Bruno and drummer BJ Zampa, who’s logged time in Dokken, have recorded  songs including “Under the Sea,” “It’s a Small World” and the Beauty and the Beast theme.

Rolling Stone reports that while the album was recorded in Nashville, Los Angeles and Connecticut, Disney wasn’t going to release it domestically. The success of the album in Japan, where it got to #3 on Amazon’s rock/metal charts, led to it’s release this past Friday in America. This isn’t Vescera’s and Sarzo’s first time in a kids-oriented metal project in Japan. The two also did Animetal together.
