Today marks the tenth anniversary of Chuck Schuldiner’s death. After a two year battle with a brain tumor, the singer/ guitarist passed away on this day in 2001. As the frontman and songwriter of Death (and later Control Denied), Schuldiner’s influence in metal is undeniable. Classic albums like 1991’s Human and 1995’s Symbolic rightfully earned him the title “Father of Death Metal.”

You can read NPR contributor Lars Gotrich’s in depth tribute to the late metal icon, as well as stream a few classics of Death as chosen by metal elite (including former members Gene Hoglan, Richard Christy, and Paul Masvidal), over at NPR. However, we wanted to pay tribute to Schuldiner by playing the music video for “Lack Of Comprehension,” which received a fair amount of air time on MTV’s Headbangers’ Ball.
