Former guitarist and founding member of Mushroomhead John E. Sekula, a.k.a. JJ Righteous, reportedly passed away this past Thursday (October 28). He was 41 years old. Visitation is being held today (November 3) from 5 to 8 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at the Busch Funeral Home in Parma, Ohio. The cause of death has yet to be revealed. However, a tribute website has already been established to honor his memory. Mushroomhead also took a moment to dedicate the song “Before I Die” to their late former band mate during their show in Columbus, Ohio last Friday night (October 29). Video of the dedication can be viewed below.

Sekula was with the Cleveland masked band since its start in 1993 and until being replaced in 2001. He played guitar on the band’s first three albums; 1995’s Mushroomhead, 1996’s Superbuick and 1999’s M3. After his departure from the band, Sekula played in the band State Of Conviction and then pursued life as a painter.  We will inform you when more is revealed surrounding Sekula’s death.
