Sony/PIAS Warehouse Looters Arrested

While the photo to the right might sum up what some think of major labels, the fire at the warehouse for independent label distributor  PIAS and Sony during the London riots was nothing less than devastating. However, there’s a bit of good news related to the arson and looting that occurred in Enfield, North London earlier this week.  Two seventeen year-olds and an eighteen year-old have been arrested for the crime, London24 reports. The three were held in connection with violent disorder and arson.

The three-story building was completely gutted, as CDs and vinyl records from labels including Victory, Nuclear Blat, and Basick went up in flames. The Beggars Group alone lost 750,000 CDs, and while replacing the stock of CDs will only take about 10 days, the vinyl could take up to three months. The Association of Independent Music suggested that to show their support, fans buy a digital download of an album from any of the UK’s digital retailers, or patronizing any local record stores while stock still exists.
