Rammstein alone was probably enough for many to decide they wanted to to go to the inaugural Chicago Open Air festival when they were announced as the first band last week. Yesterday, the festival, taking place July 15, 16 and 17, announced the rest of their lineup and pound for pound, it’s more impressive for rock and metal as Lollapalooza is for indie and alt-rock. Disturbed and Slipknot join Rammstein as the headliners on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
And while there’s plenty of active rock-like bands playing that are playing similar rock fests, metal fans will find enough on each day to want to attend. Ministry, Meshuggah, Carcass and Periphery are also playing on Friday, Gojira, Deafheaven, The Devil Wears Prada and Helmet are playing on Saturday and Babymetal, Corrosion of Conformity and Killswitch Engage are among those playing on Sunday.
Disturbed, who are from Chicago, are looking forward to headlining Saturday night, with David Draiman commenting: “It is long overdue that one of the greatest rock cities in the world has a festival of its own. We are honored and excited to be one of the headliners at the inaugural Open Air festival in our hometown of Chicago.”
Tickets for the festival are on sale now here, starting at $119.50 for weekend GA and single day for $49.50. Here’s the lineup:
