There are not many musicians out there that can currently be defined as legends. Gene Hoglan is one of the few who can. Gene has been drumming in metal bands for 30 years now, and in his time drumming for bands such as Dark Angel, Death, Strapping Young Lad, Dethklok, Testament, as well as studio work, he has seen it all. He has also pioneered drum techniques now used by some of metals best. Now, fans can hear him play songs from his extensive metal history as well as hearing some of his stories from the road and from being a part of the metal genre pretty much from the time it began until the present.
“The Gene Hoglan Experience” is a music clinic set to go on tour this fall, and in addition to music and stories, the drummer will share musical tips and techniques for learning or experienced musicians. The first date of “The Gene Hoglan Experience” will be September 20 at the Noctis 666 Metal Festival and Conference in Calgary, Canada. The festival’s lineup (that includes bands such as Carcass and Gorguts) will be complemented by clinics such as the Hoglan Experience, a guitar clinic with Tosin Abasi, live interviews, and more. Fans can also see Hoglan doing what he does best (and better than many others) when he goes on tour with Testament in a month.
