Are The Black Dahlia Murder about to have one of the biggest metal albums of the year?

Posted by on August 29, 2017

The Black Dahlia Murder just wrapped up their headlining slot on this year’s Summer Slaughter tour. BDM celebrated the tenth anniversary of their breakthrough album, Nocturnal, by playing it in it’s entirety.

This last Tuesday, BDM announced their new album, Nightbringers, and released the music video for the title track. Upon release, the first single was an instant success and the album shaping up to be one of the best selling albums for the band.

“[Music videos views] varies wildly, but we had 40k views in the first 24 hours, which is pretty strong. The video is at 113k views just through their Facebook page upload.” -Vince Edwards/Metal Blade Records.

The YouTube views on their newest video are close to three times the views of fellow Metal Blade Record’s label mates GWAR’s new video, “Fuck This Place,” which was released the following day.

Upon announcement of the new album and single, IndieMerch released a handful of different preorder packages. Some even including pipes and beef jerky. While this is a very common approach to boost album sales for a new release, Nightbringers packages sold out with in a matter of hours. Not only were Vinyl and CD presales strong, 500 cassettes sold out with in a couple days, and a very limited set of test run vinyls were gone instantly. Theses sales so impressive that IndieMerch and Metal Blade Records rushed to prepare a second printing of their new vinyl and restocked many of their packages, many of which have sold out as well.

“…the Blast Fiends group, have been really incredible with this one. Things have been really picking up steam for the band this year with the 10th anniversary of Nocturnal (Nocturnal reissue LPs sold out online in a few hours earlier this summer) going right into this new record, so we knew it was going to do well, but no one expected the response we got in the first day. Luckily Metal Blade was on top of it and able to get the plant to make room for another rush pressing…hopefully that speaks for how it will do once it hits physical stores too. ” -Karim Peter/IndieMerch

BDM’s eight album, Nightbringers will be released on October 6th on Metal Blade Records. And all signs point to this being one of their biggest releases for their career and possibly of all heavy metal this year. For a metal band to have an album sell this well over a month before it’s release is quite impressive. And there is no doubt that having a devoted fan base like the Blast Friends helps. If sales are this strong in August, there is a good possibility of Billboard Chart success as well. It would be quite remarkable for The Black Dahlia Murder to reach #1

“This is the biggest pre-order in the history of Metal Blade. View counts be damned – people are just buying the album.” – V. Edwards
