Why should major label bands be the only ones who get love? Unsigned & Streamed is a column where we stream a song from an unsigned band we at Metal Insider really dig.

This week, we’re proud to present Costa Rica’s Sight Of Emptiness. Despite being unsigned, this six-piece outfit has accomplished quite a lot since forming in 2005. They’ve shared the stage with heavy hitters like Megadeth,  Amon Amarth, Dark Tranquillity, and others, and in 2007 won the chance to perform at the UK’s Bloodstock Open Air festival (even being invited to perform at the festival again this year). Their first two albums, 2007’s Trust Is A Disease and 2009’s Absolution Of Humanity, has won them rave reviews and numerous awards (including “Best Metal Album” at the ACAM awards 2010). Though hailing from Central America, Sight Of Emptiness’ sound possesses the melodic metal edge of Swedish bands like Arch Enemy, At The Gates and Soilwork. So without further ado, listen to their song “Transition” in the stream below.

Sight Of Emptiness have just finished work on their third album with Swedish producer Thomas “Plec” Johannson (Scar Symmetry, Watain, Miseration). The record boasts special guest appearances from Glen Drover (ex-Megadeth, King Diamond), Christian Alvestam (Scar Symmetry), Whitfield Crane (Ugly Kid Joe, Another Animal), Ralph Santolla (ex-Deicide, Obituary), and many others. While currently searching for a record label, the band has lined up a handful of European and Central American dates for the Summer, including a very special show with At The Gates this Saturday (July 21) at Pepper’s Club in San Jose, Costa Rica. You can stay posted on all of the band’s upcoming plans via their website and Facebook page.

If you’re in an unsigned band and would like to participate in Unsigned & Streamed, email a link to your band’s music and a brief bio to tips [at] metalinsider.com for consideration.
