Lemmy Kilmister has been around seemingly forever. The guy roadied for Hendrix and played in Hawkwind all before he formed Motörhead in 1975. That’s more than most people do in a lifetime. And when you’re an enthusiastic overconsumer of speed, Jack Daniels and cigarettes, it’s bound to catch up with you. That happened last year, when it was revealed that Lemmy was outfitted with a defibrillator. After cancelling a few dates, the band then cancelled the remainder of the their European tour dates. His big comeback was supposed to be at the Wacken Open Air fest in August of last year, but the band were forced to cut their show short after only a half an hour. A rather sobering interview for the New York Times, he admitted that he was “paying for the good times.” And after curtailing his drinking and smoking (and well, probably speed) habits, the trio returned to America by an announcement they were playing Coachella and a sold-out show at Club Nokia a few days before that proved that Lemmy and Motörhead were back.
