Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Slaves vocalist Matt McAndrew as he’s spending this time with his first gaming console since 2006 and distracting himself from the news.
What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?
I just picked up a Nintendo switch! Haha. It’s my first gaming console since 2006. I feel like I’m living in the future. Other than that, I’ve been practicing guitar and teaching private singing and songwriting lessons online.
Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?
Got back into Elliott Smith recently, what a genius. As for rock music, I’m a big fan of Sleep Talk by Dayseeker. Solid record.
A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?
I have an instapot that I love. I make homemade lentil soup that is really excellent if I do say so myself.
In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?
I’m a huge Zelda fan and I’m about 65 hours deep into Breath of the Wild (it’s already my favorite game). As far as TV goes, my girlfriend and I just watched Entourage for the first time- that was fun. I need to do more reading- picked up a copy of Crime and Punishment, should be a good one.
What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?
I think it’s great to be slightly ambitious and use this time to learn a new skill or write that novel you’ve been putting off. I also think it’s important to find a distraction from the news. If that means binging TV and playing video games, so be it! Keep up with friends and family/make lots of video calls. Stay safe out there!
