Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Silent Theory vocalist Dakota Elliot Tyler as he’s been spending this time writing as much as he can.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

I’ve been writing as much as I can. I keep myself entertained with Netflix and video games just like everyone else and have recently started doing Zoom game nights with my girlfriend and her friends. I was always kind of a home-body anyway, so this really didn’t change too much.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

I have! I’ve been listening to Crown the Empire, Fit for A King, Parkway Drive and a little Wage War. I just found this new band I’m digging called Captives. I don’t really have any playlists, maybe Octane Biguns of the decade? But I would use that more to discover new bands or bands you haven’t heard of. I got my girlfriend into the Amity Affliction and Islander by using that playlist.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

Delicacies such as mini-corn dogs, hot pockets and pizza rolls. As well as supporting our local businesses by ordering out. We don’t really cook. My idea of cooking is browning the meat for taco night so…

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

This list is extensive. I’m a huge fan of Scrubs and South Park both on Hulu. I think if i’m going for some story telling The Sopranos, Oz, The Wire, Band of Brothers and House M.D. are all on Amazon prime. My favorite movies have all been added to Netflix: There Will Be Blood, Deep Impact, The Departed, The Matrix. As for the games I play, I’m not a console selective person. I rock both Playstation and Xbox so my favorites are Bloodborne, NBA2K, God of War, Halo, Gears of War, Dark Souls, Civ 6. All have come in handy at this point. Books I’m more into non-fiction so “American Tales of our Founded Nation”, “The Greatest Rock Stories Never Told”, “The Art of War”, “The Things We Carried”, “Why We’re Here”, Hitchens, Dawkins and I have yet to read Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s “Death by Black Hole.”

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation?

Kill the time with things that matter. Adapt. Adapt to your newfound time with your family. Step away when you need to but don’t be absent. Eat what you want to but don’t be glutinous. Its ok to break down, just dont be broken. This is hard and it should be. I’d be frightened if it was easy for every human to just go into self isolation. This will pass all the same. Everything comes to an end.
