Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Kyle Thomas (Exhorder / Heavy As Texas) as he’s been spending this time doing a lot of homeowner type things.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

It’s not that much different than my normal, day to day life, to be honest! I have done a lot of homeowner type things like tree trimming, deep cleaning around the house, etc. Cooking is something I do a lot of on any given day, which means I have had to make sure I’m staying in shape. Being from southeast Louisiana, a boy can fatten up quickly! I’ve also been writing and recording a LOT of music.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

As usual, my playlists are old- but I’ve been diving back into a lot of early punk/pre punk music. Iggy and the Stooges, Dead Boys, The Damned have all been speaking to me as of late.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

I’ve made red beans and rice, white beans and rice, pork chops smothered with potatoes and onions, steak, fried chicken, barbecue, crawfish pasta, and so much more. Of course, lots of healthy options as well, like fresh fruits and vegetables.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

I don’t normally watch a lot of television, but I have watched so much lately. The Tiger King was a welcomed train wreck, and I also watched Waco – I remember it vividly when it happened. Such an awful tragedy. Lots of weird movies and horror flicks- none more disturbing than A Serbian Film. Otherwise I’ve been doing a lot of writing and I have dusted off my dart skills again.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

I’m not sure I’m someone that’s got answers to real world problems, but this is all temporary. We have a lot of luxuries that people across the world do not. Hang in there, because we all simply cannot wait to get back on the road! Much love to all…KT
