Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with deathCAVE bassist/vocalist Freiburger as he’s been spending this time going to Black Lives Matter protests and playing World of Warcraft.
What have you been doing to pass time during quarantine?
Benny is an essential worker so he has been working through this whole time and has been working on drum technique and crypto trading on his down time. Tony has also been working through this and using this time to work on small projects as well as supporting the Black Lives Matters protests when he can. Freiburger has been unemployed this whole time and has been spending his time working on quarantine cover videos, going to Black Lives Matter protests and playing World of Warcraft.
Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?
A: We made a deathCAVE quaranTUNES playlist on spotify. As far as new albums we have been hyped on: Black Curse – Endless Wound, Eye Flys – Tub of Lard, Caustic Wound – Death Posture, Nite – Darkness Silence Mirror Flame, Ulthar – Providence, and we are also looking forward to the new Worship album, Tunnels and the new Primitive Man album, Immersion.
A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?
We all love to cook and eat… I’m sure you can tell by the fact that we are all huge! But the main meals we’ve been going crazy for are shepherd’s pie, blue cheese and steak sammies with roasted veggies and mashed potatoes and super spicy Indian food.
In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?
TV shows: The Hunt, 90-day fiancé, Alone. And awful early 2000’s, terrible Sci-Fi shows that never had an ending because they were cancelled like Terra Nova and Revolution, terrible but addicting! Documentaries: Such Hawks Such Hounds, Centuries Of Torment: The First 20 Years (Cannibal Corpse), Death To Metal (Death), Slave To The Grind, Metal, A Headbangers Journey, Metal, Evolution, Lo Sound Desert, ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band From Texas, Hype!, TAD: Buster Circuits And Ringing Ears, Kill All Redneck Pricks(KARP), Gimme Danger(Iggy And The Stooges), Murder In The Front Row, (the) Melvins across The USA In 51 Days: The Movie!, Get Thrashed. Books: Iron Man (Tony Iommi biography), Last Book On The Left, The Ruin Of Kings, re-reading Lord of the Rings, a ton of Octavia Butler books. Games: Animal Crossing and World of Warcraft, loads of Board Games, and Zoom farkle games.
What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?
Don’t lose focus on what’s important in life, and keep doing what you love. We are all going through a rough time. Don’t feel bad if you see people who are able to be super creative during this time and can’t be yourself. A lot of people are suffering mental health issues through this and just want people to know that it is okay if you can’t be creative during this. You should not beat yourself up. Instead try and focus on things that do make you happy and stay connected with your friends and family.
