Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Eric Thorfinnson of Autocatalytica as he’s been spending this time working remotely.
What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?
Honestly not much changed for me, I’m a remote-working web developer / homebody as there is plenty of working on web-apps, learning about programming, gaming hard, as well as finishing the mix on our latest record.
Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?
I’ve been very much digging on the new Moses Sumney record “Grae”, the new Arca, Kneebody’s “Antihero” and Mammal Hands’ latest as well.
A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?
I definitely fell into the bread-making cliche for a bit there, but holy fuck is that shit ever a lot of work for the amount of yield. I spent what felt like an epoch just feeding a starter to ultimately make 2 loaves of semi-questionable bread before throwing in the towel.
In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?
Not much has changed in my entertainment diet, but TV wise, we’re rewatching the Wire currently, and also absolutely loved What We do in the shadows. Game wise, I’ve been devouring anything soulslike / masochistically difficult just played Mortal Shell, which was very fun, also this one’s pretty divisive but I fucking LOVED Death Stranding, haters get fuckt. Books wise I’m just chugging sci-fi as per usual, love me some Neal Stephenson.
What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?
Get some damn hobbies and improve your damn self. Also learn to meditate, no better time than now!
