Metal By Numbers 9/18: Charmed, I’m sure

Posted by on September 18, 2014

Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.

It feels like every metal band out of Sweden has put out an album this month, yet there’s still one or two big albums waiting before the year is out including At The Gates (a.k.a. this year’s Carcass). Of course, there are many more big albums not from Sweden coming around soon, so it’s going to be a pretty active last quarter of 2014. Wait, it’s really that late in the year already? Damn, no wonder there’s been so much Christmas music on the radio lately. I’m half-joking. “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer” came on a few weeks ago and I almost crashed the car. On purpose. Anyway, here’s how In Flames did this week.

Notable Debuts:

In Flames, Siren Charms (Sony) #26, 9,050 sold

The band’s eleventh album manages to debut one spot higher than its previous album.

Emarosa, Versus (Rise) #58, 5,000 sold

Album three from this post-hardcore act features new vocalist Bradley Walden.

Crimson Shadows, Kings Among Men (Napalm) 230 sold

This is the second album from this Candian power/death metal act.

Notable Sales:

Godsmack, 1000hp (Universal Republic) #55, 5,175 sold

This continues its very slow descent.

Linkin Park, The Hunting Party (Warner Bros.) #73, 3,600 sold

A slight 13% drop.

Opeth, Pale Communion (Roadrunner) #103 2,625 sold

A 33% drop. Weirdly, this has peaked at only #24 in Sweden thus far.

Seether, Isolate & Medicate (The Bicycle Music Company) #110, 2,525 sold

This had now crossed over 90,000 sold in total.

Theory of a Deadman, Savages (Roadrunner) #119, 2,325 sold

A savage drop of 33%

Rise Against, The Black Market (Interscope) #120, 4,325 sold

A drop of 46% as this sits just under 100,000 sold.

Avenged Sevenfold, Hail To The King (Warner Bros.) #123, 2,250 sold

55 weeks and this is just under 520,000 sold. And that’s all before the video game.

Five Finger Death Punch, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 1 (Prospect Park) #130, 2,000 sold

Lo and behold, the FFDP albums have flip flopped…again.

Thousand Foot Krutch, OXYGEN:INHALE (TFK) #133, 1,925 sold

Breathe in a 46% drop.

Five Finger Death Punch, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 2 (Prospect Park) #136, 1,850 sold

About 705,000 sold with the two albums combined.

Ace Frehley, Space Invader (eOne) #141, 1,775 sold

In case you missed it, Frehley announced his touring lineup.

Judas Priest, Redeemer of Souls (Epic) #150, 1,700 sold

This is on week 10 with over 75,000 sold.

Bring Me The Horizon, Sempiternal (Epitaph) #152, 1,675 sold

A small 5% boost.

The Pretty Reckless, Going To Hell (Razor & Tie) #153, 1,675 sold

A reckless drop of 14%.

Skillet, Rise (Atlantic) #182, 1,375 sold

A teeny tiny rise of 1%.

Buckcherry, Fuck (F-Bomb) #186, 1,375 sold

Only a 1% drop? That’s not so fuckin’ bad.

Earth, Primitive and Deadly (Southern Lord) #148, 1,750 sold

The band’s eighth album is also its first to feature vocals since Pentastar: In the Style of Demons in 1996. You can read a bit more about that here.

Hammerfall, (R)evolution (Nuclear Blast) 860 sold

A big 53% drop of the hammer.

The Haunted, Exit Wounds (Century Media) 610 sold

A 64% drop can certainly wound.

YOB, Clearing The Path To Ascend (Neurot) 480 sold

More like clearing a path to descend with a 46% drop.

Babymetal, Babymetal (VAP Japan) 430 sold

A 41% drop, but after the tour announcement last week, there was bound to be a bit of a drop.

King 810, Memoirs of a Murderer (Roadrunner) 340 sold

This will probably see more sales when the band comes around with Slipknot on tour.

Eluveitie, Origins (Nuclear Blast) 320 sold

This sold the same amount as last week.

Deafheaven, Sunbather (Deathwish) 280 sold

This gets a slight bump of 18%, likely due to their touring.

Rival Sons, Great Western Valkyrie (Earache)  260 sold

After dropping off last week, the valkyrie stays in flight.

Fallujah, The Flesh Prevails (Unique Leader) 350 sold

This also gets boosted back up after falling off last week.

Ice Nine Kills, The Predator Becomes the Prey (Outerloop) 240 sold

This hasn’t been around since early August, but its been boosted  back up.

Alestorm, Sunset on the Golden Age (Napalm) 230 sold

This sales its way back to the charts (get it? Sales? Like sails?)
