Metal By Numbers 3/18: Keeping in time

Posted by on March 18, 2015

Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.

I don’t know about you, but it makes me happy to see bands with long praiseworthy careers making more of an impact in terms of sales. Sure, record sales aren’t the key to a great band, but when you have an awesome group like Enslaved that’s been around for over two decades finally making a solid debut in the US, it’s a good feeling. Plenty more groups have seen debuts this week, including…rap metal? Oh boy, here comes the hate train.

Notable Debuts:

Enslaved, In Times (Nuclear Blast) #105, 2,950 sold

The band’s thirteenth studio album makes a solid debut.

Motor Sister, Ride (Metal Blade) #163, 1,800 sold

The debut album from a supergroup that includes Scott Ian and his wife Pearl Aday gets a good start. Read an interview with them here.

Harm’s Way, Rust (Deathwish) 1,425 sold

The band’s third album and first on Deathwish debuts. They’ll need all the sales they can get after having their money stolen.

Melechesh, Enki (Nuclear Blast) 880 sold

The band’s fifth album is their first in five years.

Psycroptic, Psycroptic (Prosthetic) 650 sold

The band’s self-titled sixth album gets started on the charts.

Uli Jon Roth, Scorpions Revisited (UDR) 610 sold

The former Scorpions guitarist revisits his favorite from the band’s catalogue.

Cancer Bats, Searching For Zero (Metal Blade) 440 sold

The band’s fifth album certainly sold more than zero in its first week.

From Ashes To New, Downfall (Bette Noise) 340 sold

I thought this was some new metalcore band, but it turns out they’re rap metal. I guess I should have known since their name isn’t some variation of “Verb the Noun.”

Kid Rock, First Kiss (Warner Bros.) #13, 19,825 sold

A 40% drop, but it’s almost over the 200,000 already.

This will likely still be going when the band heads on tour at the end of next month.
