Countdown to 2025: 268 Days

SOOOOOOON, the famous word for 70000tons of Metal cruisers know to love and hate. And one thing you learn is announcements are always unpredictable. After experiencing the 2024 edition to its fullest capability, we captured all sixty-two bands, bringing back our Artist Spotlight, our countdown to the 2025 voyage, leaving on January 30th in Miami setting sail to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and returning on February 3rd, 2025. Round 12, the 2024 experience took place from January 29th – February 2nd, sailing from Miami to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic on the Freedom of the Seas.

70000tons 2024 Round 12: ARTIST 2 of 62 – Acod:

French blackened death melodic metal outfit Acod set sail for the first time on the metal seas for the 2024 voyage. Set one kicked off on Day 1, January 29th, at the intimate Star Lounge at 12:45 AM, while their second set occurred during cosplay day, the final, Day 4, on February 1st, at 12:15 PM at the Ice Rink Theater. We were lucky to make it to their second set, which had us bumping into an awesome group of cruisers dressed up for the farewell occasion. The group had the opportunity to showcase their style in front of 3000 metalheads and ultimately impressed all who saw them, especially those who enjoy melodic death metal. The band maintained such ferocious energy despite being the last day, welcoming veteran fans and introducing their music to others. While the group doesn’t tour too often, this was the band’s first appearance on stage since September 2023, along with their Hellfest appearance last June, which ultimately gave a seemingly rare treat.

What’s next for Acod?

Acod have held at least one show since the cruise but has been busy celebrating the release of their new album, Versets Noirs, which arrived on April 26th via their new label, Hammerheart Records. An overall follow-up to 2022’s Fourth Reign over Opacities and Beyond, the new album has given the band more exposure. Despite nearly twenty years together, they continue to evolve, which is seen in their most ambitious record to date.

What is the Artist Spotlight?

Well, it’s more than a review of their performance, as 70000tons goes, each band is a headliner and we treat each one as such giving them their own spread, discussing who they are and what they’ve been up to since the cruise. Each spotlight coincides with any updates from 70000tons organizers (if any), leading to days before setting sail. An extensive coverage like no other.

What does 70000tons 2025 look like?

There’s a reason why we want to keep going until we can’t. With at least 120 promised shows, bands performing twice within four days, including an All-Star Jam, Belly Flop Contest, Shore Excursions, meet and greets, clinics, workshops, pool girls and boys, hot tub mosh pits, cosplay madness, and much more. 2025, round 13 of 70000tons of Metal will bring cruisers back on the Independence of the Seas, setting sail on January 30th from Miami to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and returning to Miami on February 3, 2025.
