We’re counting down to the 2024 edition of 70000 tons of Metal! This is by far one of our personal favorite metal cruises where every artist is a headliner. Metalheads from around the globe share an insane experience of four days with very little to no sleep of nonstop metal shows. From big pool deck experiences to the intimate Star Lounge, there’s something for all metalheads regardless of subgenre, and we love it all. 2023 marked a significant return for the cruise after all cruises generally faced a halt due to the pandemic. The event’s future was uncertain, but it returned, giving sixty unique artists a go. This year we saw a number of acts having their first experience on the boat to artists having some notable silver-to-gold member status returns. We managed to capture all sixty bands, and as we countdown to the 2024 edition, we will share artist spotlights from the 2023 expedition leading up to the 2024 voyage. Artist Number 32: Iron Savior.

German power metal veterans Iron Savior embarked the metal seas for their first-ever voyage. The group was honored to open 70000 tons at the initial take off into international waters on Day 1, January 30th at 5:15 PM at Studio B – Ice Rink Theater. Having the luck to be the first band to perform, the energy was fresh, and the crowd was ready to see the group perform and return to the incredible and exhausting experience after an extended hiatus. Iron Savior were the best to open the evening, with fresh, adrenalized energy, powering through songs such as “Roaring Thunder,” “Kill or Get Killed,” and “Hall of the Heroes.” The band continued the fun, exhilarating adrenaline for their second set on Day 4, February 2nd, at 11:30 AM at the Pool Deck. While we wish we were able to see more from this group, we were there for the first performance. At this time, it was more of a Greatest Hits catalog of tracks, where it wasn’t too much longer after the metal cruise experience Iron Savior announced their new album, Firestar, which arrived much later in the year on October 6th via AFM Records.

As we move into 2024, Iron Savior have received a heap of positive feedback for possibly releasing one of the strongest power metal albums of 2023, entering in German charts at #36 and Swiss chats at #56. Looking ahead, the group has a few appearances scheduled for Germany, along with a Spain show and Tour, TBA. Hopefully, they will have a North American appearance on this side of the pond.
