Attaching the successful Mayhem name to the growing trend of boat cruises seemed like a can’t-miss proposition. However, yesterday, it was announced that the cruise, which was to have set sail from Miami on December 7, has been canceled. Here’s the statement they sent ticketholders:

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control we have been forced to cancel the Mayhem Festival Cruise. If you purchased a cruise package, you will be automatically refunded to the credit card you used to purchase. If you used a prepaid card or gift card to purchase the cruise, please contact Rose Tours for your refund (215-663-8800). If you used a credit or debit card, you will see the credit within the next 2 to 3 weeks.

We are also offering anyone who purchased a cruise ticket a lifetime complimentary pass to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival Summer Tour.  You will still receive your cruise refund in addition to the lifetime pass to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival Tour.  This pass is valid on any tour date beginning in 2013. Details on getting these lifetime passes will be announced shortly on mayhemcruise.com.

While there’s no reason as to why the three day cruise was canceled (and this is just us thinking out loud), it might have something to do with Lamb of God. Randy already spent a month in an enclosed space, so with the band’s new tour apparently kicking off in October, it a) might conflict with the cruise and b) we’ve gotta think that if they’re not touring, Randy might want to take that time off with his friends and family, and not on a boat, as attractive as a Miami to Bahamas cruise might be. On the other hand, getting a lifetime complimentary pass to the Mayhem Fest is a nice show of good faith for those disappointed fans that already shelled out money.

Other bands that had been scheduled to play included Machine Head, Anthrax, Hatebreed, Suicide Silence, Kingdom of Sorrow, Born of Osiris, Periphery, Gojira, Battlecross, Otherwise, Girl on Fire, Anti Mortem and Gypsyhawk.
