With less than a year since the release of Slipknot’s critically acclaimed album .5: The Grey Chapter last year, guitarist Jim Root already started working on new material for their next release or at least that’s what he hopes, according to an interview done by Des Moines Register

“We haven’t been able to do two albums back to back since our first one and ‘Iowa‘. We’re at a point in our career where the band is on top of its game. If we take two years or however long away, who knows if we could come back? Someone might decide they want to direct or write or other bands’ projects might take priority. I plan for the best and expect the worst. I started writing again today. Hopefully the songs will be on a new Slipknot record. If not, I’ll find something else to do with them.”

Even though Root had a big role during the production of The Grey Chapter, including taking charge of recording most of the bass parts for it after Grey’s passing, sounds like there needs to be a consensus between the rest of the band to even consider any new material to be part of the next album or at least the green light from “Someone” as he mentions, so this really doesn’t say the band is ready to hit the studio again but at least it shows that one of the band’s main songwriters is at least ready to consider it.
