It doesn’t seem like guitarist Jim Root got much say in his departure from Stone Sour. Much of the world found out about it via a sudden Facebook post earlier this year after Root write about it on his Instagram account. And while lineup changes in bands are a common occurrence, the fact that Root and singer Corey Taylor are both in Slipknot makes the change a little odd. It’s even stranger considering how Root claims he found out. In an interview with Music Feeds, he states that he was told via phone:

I really don’t know what they were thinking or a hundred percent of the reason why they made the decision that they made. I mean, it was basically put to me over a phone call and I thought that was pretty lame. Whatever, it is what it is. Onward and upward. I think I have a little bit of a different opinion on how music should be done anyway. Maybe it is for the better.

Forget Some Kind of Monster. We would’ve paid good money to see a documentary about Slipknot where there was the first sitdown between Root and Taylor. That must’ve been a hell of a conversation. His phrasing makes it seem like the band didn’t even directly fire him. It might have been done through their management, which, again, sounds horribly awkward.
