drittskitApparently, Jermaine Kling of The Absence and Infernaeon and Infernaeon guitarist Taylor Nordberg have enough free time on their hands to have formed a side project, Dritt Skit. And what better to do with a side project than a black metal cover? That’s what they did on their EP, Arachnid Assailant, with Alice in Chains’ “Angry Chair” getting a grim and frostbitten sheen of corpsepaint put on it.

Metal Injection found the cover, which appears on the band’s debut EP. While slower than the original, it starts out sounding somewhat similar, then turns into a much grimmer and blast-beat ridden version of the song. What’s surprising is how well the nihilism of Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell’s riffs work recontextualized as black metal. The EP is streaming on Bandcamp, but if you like what you hear, pick it up.
