About a year and a half ago, we counted down the top five songs of Summer. We wish it were Summer here at Metal Insider HQ. Instead, we’re snowed in, probably for at least a day, as a punishing blizzard rains down the opposite of hellfire upon us. So while we wait for our imminent demise in this grim frostbitten weather, we thought it might be appropriate to make this week’s list something that everyone in the Northeast can relate to. So grab some cocoa, dump some Kahlua in there, and hunker down, because here are some snow tunes for you. Also, props to fstrkilpussycat for the Immortal takes NYC pic to the right.

5) Metallica, “Trapped Under Ice”

Sure, this song is probably more about falling into a frozen lake than actual snowfall, but it’s definitely about being cold, and we’re assuming that it was snowing when it happened. We don’t know how the song’s protagonist got trapped under the ice that he’s singing about, but he can’t move, it’s freezing, and he’s probably going to die. This is one of many classic songs from Metallica’s sophomore album, Ride the Lightning. We should also probably shout out the hardcore band Trapped Under Ice as well, since they took their name from the song.
