While details are still scarce, Static-X frontman Wayne Static has passed away. He was 48. “Wayne Static was the enigmatic former frontman and namesake of Static-X, who later forged a successful solo career,” a statement reads. “Wayne was scheduled to co-headline tours with Powerman 5000 and Drowning Pool over the next several months.” Judging from some of the tweets and Facebook postsfrom those that knew him, it appears it may have been drug-related, but that’s absolutely conjecture at this point.
Static, born Wayne Richard Wells, released six albums with Static-X, beginning with 1999’s platinum-selling Wisconsin Death Trip, before disbanding in 2009. His first solo album, Pighammer, was released in 2011, and he’d been set to go on tour with his solo band starting on November 9. Static married former porn star Tera Wray in 2008. We’ll continue to update this story as more details are revealed, but our thoughts are with his friends, bandmates and family.
