There are only two weeks left of new releases for the year, so while you’re perusing the new music of 2013 and formulating your own Top 10 list, keep these final albums in mind and do whatever you have to in order to preview them!
Mutoid Man, Helium Head (Magic Bullet)
This three-member side project features two prominent members of the Massachusetts metal scene – drummer Ben Koller of Converge, and vocalist/guitarist Stephen Brodsky of Cave In. Their music is described as a blend of prog riffs and psychedelic/sludge elements. Being that both Converge and Cave In have fairly progressive styles, it’s a good bet that Mutoid Man will appeal to fans of both bands.
Nightwish, Showtime Storytime (Nuclear Blast)
In October of 2012, Annette Olzon and Nightwish parted ways, marking the second time that Nightwish was without a lead singer. Floor Jansen (ReVamp, ex-After Forever) was brought in to sing for the remainder of the band’s world tour, including a performance at the Wacken Open Air Festival during the summer of 2013. This DVD chronicles that performance, and also features a two-hour documentary covering Jansen’s beginning period with the band and how she adapted to her new role.
Next Week: We close out 2013 with the final release of the year, a technical death metal album that should keep the ravenous hordes occupied until 2014. See you all next week!
