Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.
Well, maybe not completely unstoppable. The charts this time around are just a tad skimpy especially compared to last week when it seemed like everybody had an album debuting. For this week, our top debut comes from guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani, who, judging by the album art, seems to look exactly the same in almost every picture he’s ever taken. But that’s beside the point that he has a top 50 album. So throw on your sunglass and get ready to peruse the sales for albums this week.
Notable Debuts:
Joe Satriani, Unstoppable Momentum (Epic) #42, 10,750 sold
Satch is back with his fourteenth album, which does nearly as well as his previous album.
Devour the Day, Time & Pressure (Fat Lady) 1,100 sold
This is the band’s debut album, and they’ll be tour with Sevendust and Otherwise this summer.

The masters of German thrash are back with their fourteenth album.
Delain, Interlude (Napalm) 540 sold
Even with only three studio albums (one of which came out last year), this Dutch symphonic metal band decided to put out a compilation album.

A 46% drop? Rats.

This is closing in on 75,000 sold.
Device, Device (Warner Bros.) #84, 5,050 sold
Over 60,000 sold in week 5.
Halestorm, The Strange Case Of… (Atlantic) #98, 4,250 sold
A nice 28% boost brings this near the 225,000 mark.

Over 80,000 sold even with a 16% drop this week.

A 22% drop for the album which is just under 60,000 sold.
HIM, Tears on Tape (Razor & Tie) #134, 20,200 sold
An 84% drop, but we’re sure most of you don’t care.

This album is just under 155,00 total after a 15% boost.
Bring Me The Horizon, Sempiternal (Epitaph) #154, 2,700 sold

The Ocean, Pelagial (Metal Blade) 750 sold
These guys will be one of the many bands on this year’s Summer Slaughter tour.
Melvins, Everybody Loves Sausages (Ipecac) 640 sold
I guess a 60% drop indicates that everbody does not in fact love sausages.
Avantasia, The Mystery of Time (Nuclear Blast) 630 sold
Is there mystery behind a 67% drop?
Amorphis, Circle (Nuclear Blast) 570 sold
This might be just me, but I don’t know if “Shades of Grey” is a great title for an album opener nowadays.
Otherwise, True Love Never Dies (Century Media) 790 sold
A big 31% boost for this album.
Heaven Shall Burn, Veto (Century Media) 440 sold
Sales Shall Burn.
Famous Last Words, Two-Faced Charade (Invouge) 410 sold
With a big 84% drop, this album might need to think up some famous last words soon.
Crown The Empire, The Fallout (Rise) 400 sold
If this hangs around long enough, it’ll break the 30,000 mark.
Arsis, Unwelcome (Nuclear Blast) 1,000 sold
Sales would certainly be welcome though.
Cathedral, The Last Spire (Metal Blade) 360 sold
The album art has been described Lee Dorrian as “nativity gone wrong”.

This has over 16,000 sold after making a reappearance on the charts.
