Last month, Korn announced that former guitarist Brian “Head” Welch will perform with them at Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park in Nürburgring and Nürnberg, Germany this coming June. Though only two shows have been confirmed so far, this “reunion” has made many fans ask whether this will lead Welch to permanently rejoining the group he left in 2005 after finding Jesus. Well as it turns out, that’s exactly what Korn is hoping for.

While aboard on last week’s ShipRocked cruise, Loudwire spoke with guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer. The entire interview can be seen in the video above, but Shaffer had the following to say when asked if he hoped Welch will rejoin Korn:

“I don’t project it, but yeah, that’s the hope, that’s the optimism of this… But we do one thing at a time and see how it develops and then talk about it, instead of rushing into something and then being… everyone’s unhappy again and then there’s an ugly split. That’s the last thing we want. So we’ll just take it step by step and sort of figure out how each thing… we’ll see how the show go, we’ll see how things transpire … Cause there’s gonna be rehearsals, there’s gonna be interactions, obviously, because we have to get ready for the show and anything else that might happen. Who knows? We might get in a giant fight and then call the whole show off. But I doubt it.”

So while he makes it clear that Korn isn’t rushing into anything, Shaffer also makes it obviously that the band hopes these two shows will lead to more (if not a permanent reunion). And unless if something really bad happens leading up to the show, it’s a safe bet that Welch will  rejoin Korn for good this time next year.
