Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week
Seriously, what kind of world is this when we have a soundtrack for a book full of BDSM porn for 40 year old women – that began as Twilight fan fiction – on the charts? But enough about that. Instead, our attention turns to Threshold, who return with their first album since 2007. Gallows also make a return to the charts with their first album to feature new vocalist Wade MacNeil.
Notable Debuts
Threshold, March of Progress (Nuclear Blast) 700 sold
A modest start for the UK prog metal veterans. Here’s hoping that sales will progress in the coming weeks.
Gallows, Gallows (Bridge Nine) 370 sold
Not only is this Gallows’ first album with a new singer, but also the first with U.S. distribution from Bridge Nine after being dropped from Reprise. Doesn’t look like it’s done them much good, though.
Ex Deo, Caligvla (Napalm) 340
A slow start for the Canadian death metal group featuring members of Kataklysm.
Notable Sales
In This Moment, Blood (Century Media) #77, 4,800 sold
A slight drop, but the album holds it steady.
Rush, Clockwork Angels (Roadrunner) #95, 3,900 sold
The band has sold almost the same amount of albums this week as last week.
Shinedown, Amaryllis (Atlantic) #98, 3,900 sold
The song “Energy” is the new theme song for the WWE. How fitting since Shinedown guitarist Zach Myers is now “BFFs” with a WWE superstar.
Halestorm, The Strange Case Of… (Atlantic) #105, 3,500 sold
Yet again, an album that maintains similar sales to last week.
Five Finger Death Punch, American Capitalist (Prospect Park) #115, 3,300 sold
The band will be featured on the Shiprocked cruise along with In This Moment. Not that other metal cruises have had the best of luck.
Insane Clown Posse, The Mighty Death Pop! (Psychopathic) #150, 2,400 sold
A steep drop for the duo, though arguably not steep enough.
Slipknot, Antennas From Hell (Roadrunner) #168, 2,100 sold
Despite a 22 percent drop, this has done pretty well.
Volbeat, Beyond Hell/Above Heaven (Universal) #179, 2,000 sold
Returning from hell, or whatever it’s below the top 200.
Pierce The Veil, Collide With the Sky (Fearless) #191, 1,800 sold
Only nine spots away from exiting the top 200.
Propagandhi, Failed States (Epitaph) 960 sold
Failed state of sales.
Fozzy, Sin and Bones (Century Media) 810 sold
We assume the handful of WWE fans left in the world are still buying this – if they didn’t pick up the Shinedown album.
Katatonia, Dead End Kings (Peaceville) 740 sold
Unfortunately, this might soon hit a dead end in sales.
Texas Hippie Coalition, Peacemaker (Carved) 600 sold
Apparently there are plenty of “red dirt metal” fans out there still buying this album.
Otherwise, True Love Never Dies (Century Media) 500 sold
We’ve got nothing. So here’s a picture of Opeth.
Kill Devil Hill, Kill Devil Hill (SPV) 320 sold
Another 14% decrease in sales for this supergroup, but it’s been on the charts for a while now.
Gillain & Iommi, Who Cares (EarMusic) 310 sold.
Sadly, not many seem to care.
Abandon All Ships, Infamous (Rise) 340 sold
An 8% increase in sales isn’t enough to save this sinking ship.
