This past Saturday (June 2), Slipknot teased fans of a “big announcement” coming today. However, it didn’t take long for it to leak that Slipknot would be launching their own destination festival this Summer.
Midwesterners are in luck, as the ‘Knot will launch Knotfest on August 17th and 18th. The Knotfest will take place at the Mid America Motorplex in Pacific Junction, Iowa on the 17th and Somerset (on the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota) on the 18th. Also set to perform on both days will be the Deftones, Lamb Of God, Dethklok, Serj Tankian, and Prong. Meanwhile, Cannibal Corpse and The Dillinger Escape Plan will be performing the August 18 date, while The Urge and Dirtfeed will be playing the August 17 date. Attendees are promised “big top tents, pillars of fire, amusement park rides, burlesque performers, firebreathers, stilt walkers, drum circles made of junkyard cars and graffiti walls.” Knotfest will come just after the release of Slipknot’s greatest hits package (due out July 17), as well as after their upcoming headlining stint on this year’s Mayhem Fest.
Fans may recall that Slipknot first attempted to launch their own festival in Iowa back in 2009. However, the event was canceled without any reason being given. However, the wait for a Slipknot festival has paid given the very impressive lineup they’ve put together. Tickets for the inaugural Knotfest go on sale starting Friday, June 8, at 10am CDT. More information will be made available via Knotfest’s official website in the coming weeks.
