This past Saturday night (April 14), after months of buzz and gossip, Guns N’ Roses were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Of course, we already knew in advance that the reunion everyone hoped for wouldn’t happen, with both Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin making that clear via statements. Despite this, Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Steven Adler were still on hand for the ceremony at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland. “I don’t know if it matters who’s here tonight because it’s about the music that band created,” McKagan stated during his acceptance speech.
Not only did the four GN’R members accept the honor, but they also performed a three song set. The four were joined by Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy (who also sings in Slash’s solo band) and former GN’R guitarist Gilby Clarke (who wasn’t inducted with the band). Sorum sat behind the kit for “Mr. Brownstone” while Adler handled drum duties for “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Paradise City.” It’s still pretty cool to see some of the original members on the same stage together (especially Steven Adler), and Kennedy sounded an awful lot like Rose. Thus, this proved to be the Hall Of Fame’s best “plan B.” But for those still bummed out that Axl or Izzy were no shows, just be thankful that Green Day performed one of their own songs instead of a GN’R tune.
While the ceremony will air on HBO on May 5, fan filmed footage from the performance has made its way around the web. You can watch the former members of Guns N’ Roses performing “Sweet Child O’ Mine” above, while more clips (and a news report from Artisan News) can be seen after the jump.
