Earlier this morning, the inductees for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame’s class of 2012 were announced. And after long speculation, it was confirmed that Guns N’ Roses will be inducted into the prestigious Hall Of Fame. Also getting inducted next year will be the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beastie Boys, The Small Faces/Faces, Donovan and Laura Nyro.
While it’s rather impressive that Guns N’ Roses were inducted upon their first year of eligibility, their induction was also pretty much guaranteed ever since they were nominated back in September. What’s not exactly clear, though, is whether the Hall Of Fame will only induct the Appetite For Destruction lineup or members who came after. In an interview with Rolling Stone that posted this morning, drummer Steven Adler revealed that he thinks drummer Matt Sorum and keyboardist Dizzy Reed (both of whom appear on Use Your Illusion I and II) should be inducted along with the classic lineup. However, Adler also doesn’t have high hopes for Axl Rose showing up, saying that the singer is still holding too many grudges, even criticizing his That Metal Show interview.
And that leads us to the question that the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame wants us to ask: will the original Guns N’ Roses lineup actually reunite for the induction ceremony? Well it’s obvious by Rolling Stone’s interview with Adler that they want people to keep thinking it could happen (remember, the magazine’s publisher Jann Wenner and writer Dave Marsh are highly influential members of the voting committee). But even Adler isn’t confident that all the members (even Izzy) will show up to the ceremony, let alone reunite. And this is coming from the one guy who probably wants a reunion the most (you can only do so many Celebrity Rehabs). And while anything is possible, we too wouldn’t count on Axl’s attendance seeing that he finally started touring with his new GN’R in the States (three years after the release of Chinese Democracy).
Chances are that speculation surrounding the GN’R reunion the Hall Of Fame is hoping won’t stop until Axl and Slash finally cave in or till the actual ceremony, which will be held on April 24, 2012 in Cleveland, Ohio (home of the Hall Of Fame’s museum). Tickets for the open ceremony will go on sale to the public on December 17 via the Hall Of Fame’s website (members of the Museum and Hall Of Fame go on sale a day earlier). In case you don’t want to shell out $50-$100, though, the ceremony will be taped and air in May on HBO.
