In hindsight, it’s not that surprising that Limp Bizkit signed a new recording deal with hip hop label Cash Money Records. With that in mind, it also shouldn’t come as a major shocker that Fred Durst and co. have collaborated with rapper/label mate Lil Wayne on a new song called “Ready To Go.”
In an interview with Billboard.com, Cash Money founder/co-CEO Bryan “Birdman” Williams claims that Bizkit and Lil Wayne’s collaboration will be released online as a one-off single next week. Williams also added that Bizkit will commit to its first release via Cash Money after their current trek in Australia (as part of the Soundwave Festival), saying:
“We’ll shoot the video with Wayne, and they’re already in the studio working in Australia. They’re just gonna go in and get it done. We’re looking to put an album out this year, but right now we’re dropping the single with him and Wayne, and we’re gonna vibe from there. Fred’s all the way in — he understands what we’re about, hard work and dedication. To me, they’re one of the hardest workers in the business.”
Of course, Limp Bizkit have collaborated with numerous rappers in the past, most notably with Method Man on the hit “N 2 Gether Now.” More recently, Durst was in the studio working with rapper Busta Rhymes (also on the Cash Money roster).
At the same time, it’s also a smart marketing strategy on Cash Money’s part. Not only is it a great way to (as Williams puts it) “let the world know that [the band] is a part of us,” but teaming Bizkit with one of their most well-known stars will definitely expose their new rock signing to even more rap fans. Whether the single “Ready To Go” will be any good, though, is another “debatable” question.
