Paws, Pets & Metal is Metal Insider’s ongoing column on bands with pets, discovering who watches them on the road, and more. Get to know more about these metal furbabies. We caught up with Maryland’s Night’s Edge, who are gearing up for their forthcoming album, The World That Never Was, out August 21st (Check out our premiere with them for their latest single “Smite” here). While the record is on its way, their cats prefer a mix of crust punk instead.

Tell us more about your pet(s) and their names?

I’ve got two cats, Catcow and Goose.  Catcow is a, you guessed it, a cow cat and Goose is a tuxedo. She came with the name when my wife and I adopted her but it fits pretty well because she kind of sounds like a goose and is precocious like one. Catcow is a cream puff.

Have you ever taken your pet on tour?

Absolutely not, that is a terrible idea. They don’t leave the house, at least not on purpose. One time Catcow got out and got stuck under our cement basement stairs and the fire department had to saw through the stairs to get her out. She has cost thousands of taxpayer dollars, for sure. Shout out to the Arbutus Fire Department though, they put a lot of time and effort into getting her out from under there.

Who looks after your pet while on the road?

My wife will take care of them when I am not home, or if both of us are gone we have friends who will watch them. Our friends have pets too so we all take turns watching each other’s pets when someone is out of town or has gigs or something.

What’s your pet’s favorite song or album?

Goose is a stinker so probably some crust punk split EP or maybe something by Gutalax.  Catcow’s theme song could be “Dumbest Girl Alive” by 100 Gecs so I will go with that. Goose is definitely the smarter of the two, just smellier.

How did you introduce your pet to metal?

We used to have band practice in our basement, so that was the cats’ crash course. They handled it ok, although Goose was a big baby and would run and hide anytime we were playing downstairs. Catcow, after getting stuck under the basement and having a cement saw running right next to her head, was less bothered. She must think she is too tough now to be scared of loud noises. I would have thought maybe she was deaf from the saw, but no she always comes running when she hears her pet feeder go off.

What animal charity means most to you?

The Anne Arundel ASPCA is where both Goose and Catcow came from, so we’re gonna have to go with them. BARCS is also a Baltimore staple, they’re always taking in strays and adopting our animals. They are the go-to for adoptions in the Baltimore area.
