Former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg has officially joined Suicidal Tendencies. The announcement was made via Instagram on Suicidal Tendencies’ page with a statement by the 33-year-old drummer, expressing:
“When I think of the culture and community of heavy music that I’ve loved and considered my creative home for 20 years, I think of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES: a foundational pillar and source of inspiration ever since I fell in love with punk, metal, and hardcore. Having toured and played shows together all over the world, I’ve been so fortunate to become friends with my musical heroes who have been a part of this band’s incredible history. It’s an absolute honor and privilege to play with Suicidal Tendencies, and I can’t wait to start this incredibly exciting new chapter in just one week! See you all in the pit!”
Weinberg will debut with the band on a two-date Japanese run of shows, followed by performances at the No Values festival and various European festivals. Suicidal Tendencies’ current lineup include Mike Muir on vocals, lead guitarist Dean Pleasants, rhythm guitarist Ben Weinman, and bassist Tye Trujillo. This move comes shortly after Weinberg was announced as the new drummer for Infectious Grooves, also recently issued the following update:
“So much fun and what a blaST! Lots of smiles and a killer new jam! Yesterday Infectious Grooves was back in the studio, recording a new track and we can’t wait for you to hear. We even got our old guitar player (and amazing artist) Adam Siegel out of “retirement” to help write this jam (not pictured due to having to leave early). Huge thanks to Tim Armstrong for always welcoming us into his studio and Joey Castillo for letting us use his drums. And damn, Jay Weinberg beat and grooved the hell out of them! Was so much fun watching him do his thing, and start everything off with a blast. More updates soon. We can’t wait to share more soon. Infectious Grooves is in the house! (And the studio!)”
