We’re counting down to the 2024 edition of 70000 tons of Metal! This is by far one of our personal favorite metal cruises where every artist is a headliner. Metalheads from around the globe share an insane experience of four days with very little to no sleep of nonstop metal shows. From big pool deck experiences to the intimate Star Lounge, there’s something for all metalheads regardless of subgenre, and we love it all. 2023 marked a significant return for the cruise after all cruises generally faced a halt due to the pandemic. The event’s future was uncertain, but it returned, giving sixty unique artists a go. This year we saw a number of acts having their first experience on the boat to artists having some notable silver-to-gold member status returns. We managed to capture all sixty bands, and as we countdown to the 2024 edition, we will share artist spotlights from the 2023 expedition leading up to the 2024 voyage. Artist Number 17: Eleine.
2023 was explosive for Swedish symphonic metal act Eleine, which all started with 70000 tons of metal. The expedition marked not only the group’s first experience on the metal seas but also was, at the time, their closest appearance on North American soil. The group had nearly 3000 cruisers from across the world to introduce their music and overall live presence. Eleine was honored to perform on Day 2, January 31st, at a prime time of 6:00 PM at Studio B, the Ice Rink Theater and Day 3, February 1st, 2023 at the Star Lounge at 10:45 PM. We were lucky to make it to their first set, which marked their overall first appearance on both 70000tons of Metal and the closest to the United States. Formed in 2014, and at the time, released three full-length albums, it was time for Metal Insider to see what the group had to offer firsthand. And wow, they put on an incredible show filled with ferocious energy, high-paced head swings, and a ruthless delivery. It was a surprising delight as they surpassed our expectations for the better.
Signed with Atomic Fire Records, Eleine have been full steam ahead, as their fourth full-length offering, We Shall Remain, arrived this past July. Since then, they’ve been more or less unstoppable, touring throughout Europe and finally making a full-fledged North American trek during the spring, as they supported Moonspell for their touring run with additional support from Oceans of Slumber and Vintersea. Most recently, the group finished an extensive European trek. We’re excited to see what Eliene has in store for 2024. If 2023 was an incredible, busy, and milestone year for them, we can only expect additional surprises for their growing career.
