The worlds of comics and metal music are intersecting again, this time for a new international DC Comics series ‘Dark Nights: Death Metal – Band Edition.’
Running seven issues, ‘Dark Nights: Death Metal – Band Edition’ will feature seven bands from different “genres and generations” of metal with each issue sporting “a variant cover spotlighting a different metal band,” and including “an introduction from the band and exclusive interview.” Bands featured in the run include Megadeth, Ghost, Lacuna Coil, Opeth, Sepultura, Dream Theater and Ozzy Osbourne.
The first issue, featuring Megadeth and a cover by Juanjo Guarnido, will launch in March. From there, the series will be published monthly in France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Turkey. Following this run, an omnibus edition containing all the issues together will be made available in those countries, as well as in Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Korea and Japan.
‘Band Edition’ launches just two months after the release of the final issue of the ‘Dark Nights: Death Metal” series that started in June 2020. Back in September, a companion animated series featuring Black Veil Brides frontman Andy Biersack as Batman and Chelsea Wolfe as Wonder Woman was released with instrumental accompaniment from Zakk Wylde on guitar and Dave Lombardo on drums. An accompanying soundtrack, dubbed ‘Dark Nights: Death Metal The Original Soundtrack,’ was also announced and is set for release some time in 2021 via Loma Vista Recordings. The only track confirmed for the soundtrack so far is Rise Against’s “Broken Dreams, Inc.”
