SYFY is looking to explore the intersection of sci-fi, fantasy and horror and metal music with their month-long “Metal Crush Monday” series.
Hosted by SYFY Wire’s Whitney Moore, “Metal Crush Monday” will feature a classic film every week in August. To go with each film, Moore will be interviewing metal icons about their love for the sci-fi, fantasy and horror genres.
Things kick off August 3 with the film ‘Lake Placid’ and interviews from Gwar’s Pustulus Maximus and The Berserker Blother and Black Veil Brides’ Andy Biersack. Further pairings include ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’ on 8/10 with Butcher Babies’ Heidi Shepherd, New Years Day’s Ash Costello and Sevendust’s Lajon Witherspoon, ‘Underworld: Blood Wars’ on 8/17 with Anthrax’s Scott Ian and ‘Battlestar Galactica’s’ Aaron Douglas, and the 2007 remake of ‘Halloween’ on 8/24 with Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, Korn’s Jonathan Davis, In This Moment’s Maria Brink and Wendy Dio.
Each evening’s screening will be supplemented afterwards by more in-depth interviews with each of the artists about their love for the sci-fi and horror genres, “metal inspirations” and more. Those interviews will be available on the SYFY Wire YouTube page and as a limited series podcast on the SYFY website and major podcast platforms.
Said Senior Vice President of SYFY Wire and self-proclaimed metal aficionado Sandy Deane in a press release:
“We know there’s a natural connection between fans of metal and genre. Syfy is bringing both together in a way that may seem surprising to some, but makes perfect sense to us.”
