It looks like 2019 could be the year when the running Nickelback jokes will come to an end. According to Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor, Imagine Dragons have now taken the “wretched” spotlight. This is somewhat surprising, considering Taylor has had a few beefs with Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger to the point that his fans screamed out “fuck Nickelback.” However, the Great Big Mouth appeared on Tuesday’s Jonesy’s Jukebox, an LA-based radio show hosted by Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, and more or less expressed that the ridicule torch has been passed on to Imagine Dragons.
Taylor commented:
“…They [Nickelback] are passing the baton to Imagine Dragons right now, and I love it. They’re awful, so that’s cool. And they’re from Vegas, so I’m gonna go home to protests.
Can’t show my face in this town now. Yeah, people are slowly coming back to appreciate Nickelback and then just turning their irksome ire towards Imagine Dragons.”
Based on Taylor’s comment, there could be some truth as The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan has previously defended Kroeger, even Deadpool has defended the group as well as an alleged fan campaign asking to have Kroeger to be part of a Nirvana reunion. Meanwhile, Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme has shared his distaste for Imagine Dragons five-years-ago as Slayer/Exodus Gary Holt recently slammed the group’s halftime performance.
