Devin Townsend shocked the music community when he recently announced disbanding The Devin Townsend Project to work on other personal endeavors. Now the frontman took to Twitter to further elaborate about his situation and mentions how he cannot financially afford working on multiple projects.
The reality of the situation is that I cant do both DTP and these other compulsions at the same time. Its simply more than I (or anybody) can afford financially. I appreciate everyones patience during all this as I feel it essential to do these other things. It was a hard choice.
One Twitter user replied with “sorry to hear that it had to come down to financials” which Devin responded,
“Of course. If I had an extra 120k per year to keep everybody afloat while I did other things, that would be swell, but its 2018 and the industry doesn’t work like it once did.”
It’s a shame The Devin Townsend Project has come to an end but it’s totally justified why Devin chose this path. Hopefully, everything works out for Devin and he is able to achieve all his desires and aspirations with his new projects. In another tweet, it seems like Devin is looking forward to being asked when he will be reforming Strapping Young Lad and now The Devin Townsend Project.
Well now theres two bands that people can ask me to reform…
