It doesn’t look like Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine has fully made peace with all current members of Metallica. It could be argued that the vocalist/guitarist’s grudge from when the group kicked him out of the band back in the early eighties due to his erratic behavior and his drug and alcohol abuse is still present. With that said, he’s done quite well for himself over the years, and did the best he could to remain positive, forming Megadeth and eventually sharing the same stage with his former band during the Big Four tour.
However, the strife he has between Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield seems to still exist. For those who are unaware, Mustaine actively tweets, posting more than (and making more sense than) President Donald Trump. Earlier today (30th), Mustaine responded to a fan about the rumors on releasing Metallica’s early eighties demo recordings – No Life ‘Til Leather. According to the Megadeth mastermind, there was a dispute between him and Ulrich over the songwriting credits. Mustaine believes he wrote every single word and the drummer allegedly had no contribution.
He explained:
“James contacted me 2 years ago. We were going to officially release the “No Life Til Leather” demo as a record, w/27 tracks, pics, the whole enchilada, and the talks broke down because Lars wanted credit on two songs I wrote every note and word to. I have the texts. I passed.”
Shortly after Mustaine’s explanation, fans reacted by bashing members of Metallica including guitarist Kirk Hammett who has nothing to do with the initial topic. Mustaine defended Metallica, asking fans to take it easy. No Life ‘Til Leather was re-released for Record Store Day in 2015, but only the original seven songs.
